Clegg Hall
A Grade 11 Jacobean manor house Clegg Hall has a long history shrouded in myth and legend; it was probably erected at the start of the 17th century by Theophilus Assheton. The building was in desperate need of some TLC and 1986 it was given to Pennine Heritage by Deed of Gift for a minimum amount subject to the building being saved. With help from English Heritage, a working party was set up to restore the building. Today Clegg Hall is well on its way to being returned to its former glory in one of the most ambitious restoration projects seen in the area in recent times.
