Volunteers Wanted
Come and join the Birchcliffe Centre community as a welcome desk volunteer
Are you a friendly, welcoming person who loves talking about our local heritage? Are you looking for a way to get more involved with the local community? Or perhaps you're looking to enhance your workplace skills and get experience in a public-facing role?
You could be our next Welcome Desk Volunteer!
Welcome Desk volunteers provide a friendly reception to the many community members who visit the Birchcliffe Centre each day, and help them engage with our rich local heritage through our exhibitions and publications. The Birchcliffe Centre is a mixed-use space, so you will be welcoming community groups, clients for our tenant businesses, researchers using the archives, and visitors who have come to learn about the local landscape and history.
We are looking for regular volunteers for 10am-1pm or 1pm-4pm on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
Welcome Desk Volunteer activities include:
- Discussing local history with visitors (no prior knowledge necessary!)
- Providing information to tourists
- Directing visitors to businesses and events in the building
- Selling Pennine Heritage publications
- Answering phone queries and passing on messages
If you are interested in contributing in other ways (researching and writing blog posts, helping to plan events and exhibitions etc.) our Heritage Manager will be happy to discuss this!
